Knitting by Blind Faith

Busy Weekend

After a long week at work, I was really looking forward to sitting down with a good book and my knitting Friday night. I’m working on felted booties for RAM, and on Friday, I settled down in my rocking chair to listen to an enthralling audionovel by Jodi Picoult–one of my favorite authors–and to knit.

RAM came home, so I was forced to put everything down and fix dinner, which was probably a good thing because I was hungry, too. Then, we got engrossed in a movie as I worked on the heel. After I finished the heel turn, I stopped to count stitches. I was one short! I inspected my work. No holes anywhere… Then, I see it. One of the edge stitches is waving in the breeze 17 rows back! I groaned. Nothing left to do but go back and fix it, this time, accompanied by the local news.

The lesson: don’t do anything but mindless stockinette when you don’t intend to concentrate on your knitting. And I took my own advice…for the rest of the weekend, anyway.

Saturday, we met friends for lunch and ate at a restaurant on the river and then ran some errands. We went and saw RAM’s parents Saturday night and got together with them for Chinese on Sunday. RAM’s sock accompanied me and was pulled out in spare moments.

Midnight blue sock with leg, heel, and most of the foot completed.

Okay, I know it looks like it could fit Godzilla, but it’s going to be felted, remember? (These booties are being knit using the Magic Loop method.)

RAM and I capped off the weekend by spending a couple of hours by the pool, and when we got back, I ordered my ball winder, swift, and Eucalan Woolwash. They were Valentine’s Day gifts from RAM that I just now got around to ordering (I was actually waiting for the swift to come in; it was out of stock). I am so excited that I actually paid for 3-day shipping!

The company was great! After my doggie experience it was nice to see Faithknitter and Ram! The bootie looks great! You are making fast progress and will probably start the second one soon.

Half of my vacation is over and I am already working on lesson plans for school. I am going to go hunting for my yarn tomorrow so that I can crochet a little on my afghan before vacation ends!
