Knitting by Blind Faith

Today was a day filled with frustration. Almost everything that could go wrong, did. My not so faithful friend, Knitting, teased me by allowing my Knit Picks order to arrive early, but otherwise, has mostly laughed in my face. Knitting has been laughing in my face a lot these past few days, actually, as I work on the interminable baby hat. It really isn’t that difficult, and yet I am stuck in the twilight zone, doomed to knit that evil hat until Knitting sets me free, because she knows I won’t give up. (Maybe it will be ready by Baby’s 45th birthday. Do you think it will still fit?)

When I came home today, I was this close to throwing the whole mess through the patio door. But for the loving kindness and words of comfort from RAM, I probably would have. Instead, RAM kindly cleaned up the kitchen after I threw dinner together, and then did the laundry (isn’t he sweet!), so I could have some me time.

Knitting did decide to bless me with some progress tonight–FINALLY! I switched to a new Knit Picks Options cable (the one I was using had a weak join that was constantly snagging the yarn), and that, quite obviously, smoothed things out immensely. (Yes, I know, “Duh!!!”) I immersed myself in a good book–the Friday Night Knitting Club, by Kate Jacobs, which I am loving to pieces–and things started to fall into place.

When I laid the work and the book down, Peace asked to go on a walk. Joy, who had been uncharacteristically quiet, did not ask to go on a walk, but she seemed to like the idea when I offered. So, after I came home with Peace, Joy and I went for a stroll–uh, run. All that pent-up energy came out of her, and she was exuberant. The night was peaceful, and the walk cleared my head. Joy loved it, too, and wished for a longer walk, but it was late. After a long, hard day, it was nice to spend some time with my faithful friend.
